Samsung’s First Solar-Powered Netbook Coming This July

Samsung has just announced that they are about to start selling their first solar-powered NC215S net book in the U.S. for $399 from the July 3rd. According to the manufacturer, the US model will boast a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, 1GB of memory, and a dual core processor. The best part … the solar charged battery is aimed to provide up to 14 hours of life from a fully charged battery.
I love the idea … especially when you go out on a picnic and will enjoy the open air and the sun light and the way your notebook charges right from sun. Now you can easily forget the charger home.
By the way, be ready to face the truth, Samsung’s notebook is capable to charge the battery using solar energy only. The only drawkback — you have to pray the sky does not get cloudy.

Sony Ericsson launches three new handsets

Sony Ericsson Xperia ray

While Sony Ericsson isn't officially taking part in CommunicAsia 2011, the company has taken advantage of the tradeshow to unveil its latest products at a separate event.

A total of three phones were announced today, with two of them being Android smartphones (Xperia ray and Xperia active) equipped with the latest Gingerbread operating system (OS). The third device is actually a feature phone called the Sony Ericsson txt and it complements the previously announced Sony Ericsson txt pro.

(Update: While Sony Ericsson was reluctant to disclose any prices, we did managed to get some estimated figures from them. The Sony Ericsson txt will probably retail in the region of US$100 to US$150. The Xperia ray will probably end up costing around the S$580 (US$470) to S$600 (US$486). As for the Xperia active, Sony Ericsson declined to tell us the estimated pricing, but indicated that it would be definitely be priced below the Xperia ray.)

If you find the Sony Ericsson Xperia ray familiar (pictured above), it might be because it resembles the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 in both shape and form factor while borrowing some of the design elements of the Xperia Arc. The Xperia ray does get some cosmetic tweaks with redesigned menu buttons, and is slightly smaller and thinner compared to the X10.

Measuring just 9.4mm thin and weighing 100g, the smartphone takes some lessons from the Xperia Arc, though it's not quite as thin, of course.

The phone comes with an 8.1-megapixel camera, front-facing camera, scratch-resistant 3.3-inch screen (854 x 480 pixels) and the Sony Ericsson Timescape UI. It will be available in four colors, black, gold, white and pink.

Sony Ericsson Xperia active

Next up is the Sony Ericsson Xperia active, designed with sporty users in mind. The handset comes packing a 3-inch scratch-resistant display (320 x 480-pixel) that claims to be able to accurately track your wet fingers (though we tested other capacitive screens with wet fingers and they seem to work fine). The phone is also water-resistant (under 1m of water for up to 30 minutes) and dustproof.

Besides these features, the phone also comes with onboard GPS, Bluetooth and barometer. This should come in handy for joggers to plan and track their running routes.

The handset comes with a wrist strap, an arm case, and replaceable back covers to change the phone's back color to white. Otherwise the Xperia active will come in orange or white with a black back cover.

Sony Ericsson txt

Lastly, we have the Sony Ericsson txt, a feature phone meant for the social media crowd. The device has a 2.6-inch screen, QWERTY keyboard and a SMS shortcut key. Like the txt pro, the txt has a "friends" app that lets you see social media updates from Facebook and Twitter for up to five friends.

Now, since the phone lacks 3G connectivity, you will have to pull your updates via the built-in Wi-Fi.

The handset will come in four shades, white, black, pink and blue.

The Xperia ray and Xperia active will be available in Q3 2011 for selected markets, though Sony Ericsson has disclosed that the Xperia ray will definitely be available in Japan. The txt will be available in selected markets in Q4 2011.

How To Remove A Trojan Virus

Sasser is the first self-executing worm to attack the MS04-011 vulnerability announced by Microsoft in April. McAfee AVERT has raised the risk assessment to medium for W32/Sasser.worm, also known as Sasser, due to it’s prevalence in the field and it’s ability to move without the support of email, which has been the primary vehicle of delivery for most of the worms seen recently. This new worm is a self-executable program that spreads by scanning random IP addresses for exploitable systems. To date, McAfee AVERT has received several reports of the worm being stopped or infecting users on several continents, with most of the reports coming from Europe.
Sasser is a self-executing worm that spreads by exploiting the Microsoft MS04-011 vulnerability. The primary purpose of the worm seems to be to spread to as many vulnerable machines as possible by exploiting un-patched Windows systems, giving it the ability to execute without requiring any action on the part of the user. Once activated the worm copies itself to a folder in the Windows System directory and adds a registry run key to load at system start-up.
After being executed, Sasser scans random IP addresses for exploitable systems. When one is found, the worm exploits the vulnerable system by creating a script and executing it. This script instructs the target victim to download and execute the worm from the infected host. The infected host accepts this FTP traffic on TCP port 5554.
Immediate information and cure for the Sasser worm can be found online at the Network Associates McAfee AVERT site. McAfee AVERT is advising its customers to update to the 4355 DATs to stay protected.
McAfee creates computer security solutions that prevent intrusions on networks and protect computer systems from the next generation of blended attacks and threats.

ARM Support in the Linux Kernel, the Unseen and Untold Truth

support in the Linux kernel has been a debated issue for too long and today, it stands at a point where it is making more compromises. Every device with its own code for
arm-logo
ARM support creates a bloatware out of the entire ARM section in the Linux kernel. This is a huge dilemma because if these codes are not submitted at the end of the day, it will (probably) be termed as a violation of GPL v2 and if they are submitted, they are too complex to include into the kernel. So they just lay there.

With a mini community of independent agents formed inside the Linux kernel developer community itself, these device manufacturers are finding it hard to get their ARM changes upstream into the mainline kernel. The reason?
  1. There are too many of them
  2. They are highly complex in their own way
  3. Most of them are just redundant
In short, there is utter chaos when it comes to ARM support in the Linux kernel and it was best left ignored until now.
The scenario is taking a turn and attempts are being made to standardize the process. ARM has moved to a separate Git tree but it still annoyed the maintainer all the more. Torvalds is rightfully annoyed here, as he would not include every bit of code that some device manufacturer somewhere has written to support some hardware that few people use!
This is a strong but a welcome decision because in the long run, it will keep hardware vendors from breaking the Linux ecosystem and acting in a more co-operative and a less competitive way.
The state of ARM in Linux kernel can still be ignored all right but we have seen how Microsoft is talking of a Windows 8 tablet now. ARM is indeed important for the future of portable and mobile computing and undoubtedly, Linux plays a major role in its future. The sooner they marry, the better it is for both of them.

Gong Chae Nam Pla

Larb Mote Daeng

Semut bukan hanya makanan trenggiling.

Yam Kai Yeow Maa

Kai Khao

Sebaskom besar embrio telur bebek. Siap menikmati?

Meski rasa petai tak terlalu kuat, tapi kandungan gizinya banyak.

Coder Overclocks Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Tablet By 40 Per Cent!

Members of XDA-developers forum have managed to pushed the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet to its limit using some very clever tinkering.
By modifying Android's Kernel, a senior member called Pershoot managed to overclock the tablet's system on chip, an Nvidia Tegra 2 from 1GHz to 1.4GHz, a 40 per cent improvement.
He provides with the necessary instructions as well as download links but warns that this is merely a preview of what he has been working on.
Some users have reported a significant jump in performance without any apparent glitches. No drop in Wi-Fi connectivity, no random crashes and more importantly no increase in heat dissipation.
Pershoot however did not yet provide with any updates regarding the impact of the overclocking on the tablet's battery life.
The overclock provides with a clue as to how much headroom Nvidia has with the current manufacturing process. The company has already released SoC's clocked at 1.2GHz but that's far from the upper limit of what the Cortex A9 can achieve (2GHz) and less than half what can be expected from the next generation Cortex A15.

The fact that smartphones and tablets are gradually morphing into full-fleged computers means that overclocking attempts are likely to become more common over time.

Zotob Worm Virus

McAfee’s system and network protection solutions provide proactive, zero-day protection against a recent wave of threats that have been working to exploit a hole in the plug-and-play feature in the Windows operating system.
The vulnerability, termed MS05-039, was announced by Microsoft on August 9 and within five days the vulnerability had been targeted by virus writers that produced multiple variants of the ever expanding SDBot family, as well as a new family now known as Zotob. McAfee solutions were able to proactively protect McAfee’s small to large business customers prior to the release of the exploit code and without updates, thereby helping to identify and block the attacks before they could cause damage to systems and networks.
“The recent exploits targeting the MS05-039 vulnerability appear to be one of the shortest vulnerability-to-worm windows we’ve seen, even shorter than the Sasser worm, which took approximately two weeks to exploit the LSASS vulnerability,” said John Vecchi, senior product marketing manager, McAfee Inc. “McAfee’s ability to provide zero-day, out-of-the box protection before the exploit code was discovered, clearly demonstrates the company’s commitment to staying ahead of both known and unknown threats and continually keeping our customers’ systems and networks secure.”
While the recent slew of threats that started last Friday have been identified as low-risk threats by McAfee, the threats can still cause harm to organizations that don’t have proactive protection in place or who haven’t downloaded the recent Microsoft patch.
McAfee solutions, which provide protection against both known and unknown threats, were able to protect users prior to the discovery of the exploit code, demonstrating their ability to proactively protect against new exploit techniques.
McAfee Entercept, which provides host-based intrusion prevention, mitigates the threat of the worms by offering zero-day protection without the need for product updates. This out-of-the-box capability reduces the time associated with patching against the vulnerabilities and allows business users to ensure critical system security and uptime. In addition, McAfee IntruShield’s network intrusion prevention appliances provide preemptive zero- day protection against the latest Microsoft exploits. As a result, IntruShield customers were proactively protected against these new threats without signature updates. IntruShield’s proactive protection is delivered through its patented shell code detection technology, which was paramount to the product’s ability to also provide zero-day protection against the new exploit techniques last month that targeted Cisco IOS-based routers.
Additionally, both McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i, the industry’s first anti-virus software product to integrate elements of intrusion prevention and firewall technology into a single security agent, and McAfee Managed VirusScan, a Web-based solution that provides always on, automatic virus protection for smaller businesses, provide customers with proactive protection against attacks targeting the buffer overflow vulnerabilities reported in the MS05-039 vulnerability.

Panda Cloud Antivirus 1.5 offers cloud based protection for your computer

The latest version of Panda Cloud Antivirus adds a number of new features and improvements, including faster scanning times and specific file extension checks.
It seems as though every type of software imaginable now exists in the cloud, and this is even extending to security software. Panda Cloud Antivirus has just been updated to version 1.5, offering a number of important improvements over previous releases of the program. Most of the improvements are to be found in the area of performance but there are also a few new features to look out for.
The first thing that you will notice about the updated software is that scanning times have been reduced. The fact that a great deal of processing is done on remote computers helps to take the strain off your own, and the new BackgroundScan helps to further reduce CPU usage.
When it comes to configuring scans of your system, there are new options to choose from. To help speed up files checks further, you can now opt to exclude files according to type. Panda Cloud Antivirus also offers real time protection against viruses so you do not have to rely on manual scans, and you will also be warned about malicious downloads and phishing web sites.
Existing users of Panda Cloud Antivirus will find that their software will update to the latest version automatically, but you can find out more and download a free copy of the program by paying a visit to the Panda Cloud Antivirus review page
