Sony Ericsson Ape Concept Runs Android 3.0

This year, Sony Ericsson announced a wide range of new mobile phones that run under Google's Android operating system, and even managed to start shipping some of them, but there is one handset that the company would certainly not have in stores in 2011, namely the Sony Ericsson Ape concept device.

The mobile phone features a design similar to the one available on Sony Ericsson's latest Xperia devices, and specifically reminds us a lot of the Xperia arc, which is already available for purchase. However, although it sports the same curved design as the said smartphone, the Sony Ericsson Ape concept handset features significantly upgraded hardware specification, and runs under Android 3.0.

Coming straight from Frank Tobias (via), the new Sony Ericsson Ape would certainly prove a great option for those who are waiting for the next flavor of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, though there are little chances that it could actually be released on shelves.

Its specs list sports a 3.9-inch touchscreen, a Reality Display with Mobile Bravia Engine technology, along with a dual-core 2.5GHz application processor.

For increased performance capabilities, the CPU is complemented by 1GB of RAM, along with 8GB of internal memory, with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 64GB of additional storage space.

The concept device also includes an 8.1-megapixel photo snapper (Sony Exmor R mobile CMOS sensor), with LED flash, auto focus, and the ability to record videos in full HD (1080p).

The photo snapper is complemented by a 3.2-megapixel camera on the front, a great addition for those who like to video chat from their handsets.

In addition to offering support for 3G networks, the Sony Ericsson Ape concept mobile phone also includes WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity capabilities, as well as DLNA and NFC functionality.

The handset sports a sleek and thin design, and should offer a great experience to users, provided that it is actually released at some point in the future. For the time being, all we can do is dream about it.
