This could be a sign of infection, or due to incomplete or incorrect installation of programs.

My computer has gone mad…
If the computer does things on its own, Sending emails, opening Internet sessions or applications… your system could be compromised by malware.

System Slowdown:
Sometimes an attack of spyware and malware will cause your system to download more viruses, and over a short period of time you will notice a dramatic drop in the system's performance.
Browser Homepage:The most common symptom that you're infected is when your homepage is changed. In fact, some spyware can also change your system's registry, which means if you reset your homepage, the next time you start your browser, the homepage will be changed again.

Problems with searching:
Some viruses may imbed themselves into your web browser and change your searches to a result page with annoying ads and fake web pages.
